John M. Blazek,
President

As an expert in the growth and development of new and existing businesses, John Blazek’s name is synonymous with business success in Omaha. He’s a proven business leader, particularly in the area of health care, who has also used his talents to oversee a wide range of projects, including the founding of the Qwest Center and the recent renovation of The Paxton Hotel. More recently, he became director of the Halo Institute, Creighton University’s business incubator.

Mr. Blazek’s first company, Total HomeCare, Inc., was a pharmacy and home health care agency that began with just two people and $2,000. In 12 years, Total HomeCare was awarded Omaha’s 25 Fastest Growing Companies twice and was sold in 1993 to an entity that would become Coram Health Care, Inc., a publicly traded company.

Mr. Blazek served as the Assistant to the Mayor for Economic Development in 1998-1999. He was recruited in 1999 to become the Chief Executive Officer of the WellComm Group, a disease management company and call center. In 2001 WellComm was acquired by I-Trax Inc., a Philadelphia-based publicly traded company, in 2001. Mr. Blazek remained as President with I-Trax until 2003, when he left to begin JMB Capital LLC, a holding company for a variety of business investments, which is still operating in Omaha.

Mr. Blazek is currently on the Board of Directors of the Nebraska Investment Finance Authority (NIFA) and First Westroads Bank. Previous board experience includes: The Greater Omaha Chamber of Commerce; MECA; Catholic Charities; KVSS 102.7 FM Catholic Radio; City of Planning Board; VJ and Angela Skutt Catholic High School; and the Better Business Bureau. He was also an instructor with the University of Nebraska at Omaha for eight years in the marketing department, teaching business sales and sales management.

Mr. Blazek earned his Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy, and later earned his Master of Business Administration, both from Creighton University in Omaha.
